Hi, Anderson! Today is December 24th, Christmas Eve. It is supposed to be a joyful time, celebrating with families and friends. But my mind wanders elsewhere, my heart bleeding with my fellow Filipinos whose lives and properties were lost in the flash flood that happened at the height of Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City in Mindanao, Philippines last December 16. Many were caught unawares as they were sleeping in the middle of the night. Illegal logs up in the mountains created a damming effect, and when it no longer able to carry the weight of the water, all hell broke loose. Water rose up the rooftops in a matter of minutes. Thousands died, most of them children who are helpless in the murky and raging water. The current was so powerful whole houses were torn out of their foundations. Cars and trucks were overturned. I am not from these places but I have friends there. I can't go there physically to help, only my prayers and thoughts are always with them. This tragedy is our fault, really, as this happened before. I and my family also experienced this nightmare first hand 2 years ago when Typhoon Ondoy lashed Metromanila and nearby provinces in Luzon. Thank God we came out of it intact. We've been warned beforehand but no one seems to listen or care. This happened before and will happen again and again if we won't do anything about it. But for the meantime, life goes on and we need all the help we can get. International aid continue to come in, but additional help will me much appreciated. I'm not even sure if you or your staff will even read this, but praying and hoping against hope that you will. If ever, you can course whatever help you can give to Philippine Red Cross or to GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc. Thank you very much and God bless you more.
