Fact: All children begin to understand they are a boy or a girl from about 2 -3 years old. ALL children. Yes, ALL children know by the time they are five that "I'm a boy, mommy's a girl, daddy's a boy, etc."

Please do not condemn a child who has the misfortune to be born with a medical condition that causes the body to not match the brain's gender. Medical, legal and psychological experts agree that the proper treatment for children with this condition is to allow the child to live according to the brain's gender. These children will receive hormonal treatment and surgery at the appropriate times in their lives to treat the condition.

Making negative comments about this medical condition is insensitive and in effect child abuse. These children did not chose to be born with this medical condition.

And please don't blame the parents. No parent hopes for a transgender child, in American society it is a difficult and dangerous medical condition. Studies have shown that children who are not allowed to live according their brain's gender have a 50% rate of suicide. Children who are allowed to live according the to their brain's gender, risk brutal and cruel comments from otherwise decent people.
