I was skeptical, when I first started watching this show. However, over time, I've come to realize that most parents, not only don't spend as much time with their kids, they aren't invested in teaching them social and life skills to help them be productive members of society. Maybe, a better question for us to ask is: How much time are we personally spending, teaching honesty, moral behavior, compassion, service, character, self control and strong work ethic? To all the naysayers, look in the mirror and ask yourself.. Am I in debt? How are MY parenting skills?If you don't think our country would be better with more parents like the Duggars, then maybe you need to visit the overcrowded prisons or maybe congress. Thanks Anderson!
Oh Mr. Cooper, You are such a great journalist, whatever possessed you to bring these (Duggars) people to your show????
In the past you have been a correspondent and journalist on truly important and relevent aspects of global significance, and now you have the Duggars on your show?? How the mighty have fallen . . .
I don't think it's fair to the children, I think it's physically and emotionally impossible to provide the support each child needs. I was 5 of 6 and swore I would never do that to my children. I have three wonderful children and wouldn't consider having more, I know I could never give more of myself emotionally and it wouldn't be fair to them.
The Duggars have 19 children- I used to think they were a little crazy! But they LOVE their children with such unconditional love. Along with that love they discipline and nurture each child. Their faith is so strong...I really think God has blessed them! Thank you for having a real conversation with them and letting them share a little about their life. I am reminded that no matter how big or small your family is, put God first and he will take care of all things!
Most of you are out of line. Is it any of your business how many children they have? From what I can see the children are happy, well mannered and faith filled people as well as educated. They have said they do not buy on credit.I believe they own real estate and have investments.We do not live in China where a family is allowed to have only one child and women are forced to have an abortion if they become pregnant a second time..So live your own live and be happy and let others live their lives.
I think Anderson did a great job coming up with questions to ask this very strange and catatonic couple. No matter what the subject (including the miscarriage of their child), their emotional state never changed. I, for one, had to turn the volume very low. Michelle's contrived and spurious manner of speaking, along with her grating lisp, began to creep me out.
I am confused. On the show it indicated the Duggers have been married thirty years and she had a miscarriage recently at age forty-two. They were married when she was twelve??
Yes! I think I would be a good parent to 19 children. My own parents had 13. 11 Girls and 2 boys... Out of those 13, there were 2 sets of twin girls.. They were hard working people. Honest to the bone. They instilled in all their children those same attributes. I am the 10th child of those parents. I never felt neglected, or went without. I WOULD NEVER CHANGE MY LARGE FAMILY FOR ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD. I can still hear my parent, about the same routine as the Waltons... night Alice, night Mommy, Night Daddy, Night Pat, etc... What I wouldn't give for one more hug.......

These people are all those things and more. Our world is suffering the consequences of overpopulation with a major strain on the planet and diminishing esources and it will get worse. Water is the next resource that will be hard to get and all because as a species we do not respect the laws of nature.
To carelessly have 19 children is the height of arrogance and disrespect for the rest of us who also live on this planet. I do not know if they pay for all these children or get government assistance but this is another issue that is so utterly offensive
Are they really so wealthy that they can afford these children let alone pay for a decent college education for all these children? Or perhaps they are so stupid, they don't believe in education.
Furthermore, if they want so many children and are really so religious, they should adopt ..there are so many children already here who have no home...and yet maybe it would be best if children who didn't have to be part of this family were saved from this INSANITY.
To me these are among the most offensive heinous people I have ever heard of because they are so terribly unconscious.
I am amazed that they are treated as if what they are doing is a wonderfull thing when it is the same as any overindulgence...It is a horific GREED just as any hoarding and coveting of material goods is.

Am I the only one who did the math on the 42-year-old mother of 19 kids, who has been with her husband for 30 years? Never mind the kids - would you be OK with your 12-year-old daughter gettinginto a relationship and a marriage two years later?! Where are child protection services when you need them?
I am amaze by the comments I've been reading about the Dugger's. Many people say why, How, and its not healthy. I will tell you those people don't see the Heart of this couple....the reason they are on TV is to share their hope, love for children and family and their Trust and Faith in God their Lord. I am a grandmother and I have gotten several idea's from watching their programs on TLC....Maybe the negative people that wrote such cruel comments should watch and read their books. Every place they go the people say their children are respectful, have servants heart, kind to others , very mannerly and morally upright.....so in this world today what is wrong with that. Thank you Jim Bob and Michelle and family to be such a good example of all those above area's.
Sorry, but women who "babytalk" drive me nuts! I wish I didn't see so many people falling for this "Reality Show" scam! It's just my opinion but no-one should have their whole family on reality TV.Those kids are being exposed and that's all there is to it!! Also...I wish these people would listen to themselves when bragging about what the LORD has done for them because they are so BLESSED! So,I guess if I have a child that's handicapped or terminally ill then he or she isn't blessed but you are because you are a "Christian"? Just stop it! Your circumstances are different but you are no more special than the next person.... It just seems to me that you are just out to get attention.I respect people who actually give to the world by adopting or lending a helping hand to make someone else's life better. It's seems like this family just takes!! And I do agree with most people who posted that you shouldn't just have that many children just for attention. I was raised in a large family and we can't stand each other now because all our life we had to fight over every morsel of food, attention and clothes!! But we never asked for "Handouts". I think that's what this family is doing!Sorry to be so critical but if you put yourself out there...just sayin'...

I really did not like her baby talk..it's so phony when women sound that way. And I don't like ANY reality shows. I don't think you should expose your children to such idiotic behavior such as living your life in everyone's living room!
Also....I really am sooo sick of people saying "The Lord gave me this God gave me that" The Lord gave me a gift because I'm SPECIAL and BLESSED...enough already!!STOP IT!! It makes it sound like children or people with diseases they can't prevent are NOT blessed!I'm sick of this phoney baloney Christian act!!I think most people know it IF you are truly a christian and you don't have to go around bragging about it!!! I am appalled by the judginess and invalid arguments of some of the commenters. You have no problems with the girls of Teen Mom, who are emblazoned as some sort of hero's on national television, but instead you choose to judge these people who are more than adequately providing for their own without any assistance of any kind. I think it is a testament to the ignorance of the country when the only argument you have against them having this many children is, " the world's over population." Did that stop the last population boom's quest to birth children? I think not.
I am not a religious person in the least, and I don't want 19 children of my own either because quite frankly I am not willing to sacrifice life's little luxuries for what they have for their own family to have that many children. If a family is self-sustaining though, able to nurture and grow healthy adults, then why wouldn't you allow them to do so? So their reality show supports this family? They have been self-sustaining long before that and did what they had to (buying second hand, and used), and lived within their means and were able to prosper. The idea that just because they put their lives on television, that people can judge them because of their choices and yet support the ignorance and intolerance of others is what's wrong with this country. Not the religious choices, television, or music people listen to, and you can blame it on those things but it all boils down to ... opinions are like noses and everyone has one, how you choose to pick it is up to you.
