Sperm Donor Siblings Meet. Plus, Hugh Jackman

farnoosh-290x140

Anderson explores the reality of sperm banks, which often don't limit the number of donations one sperm donor can make, resulting in children of sperm donors having multiple half-siblings. Anderson speaks with 18-year-old Alanna, who while searching for her sperm donor biological father, discovered a half-brother after joining a sibling registry website. Anderson surprises Alanna and introduces her for the first time to her half-brother, Zach. Alanna and Zach discover they may have five more siblings.

grocery-cart-290x140Then, superstar Hugh Jackman stops by and fulfills a lifelong dream by taking over Anderson’s talk show duties for a segment, hosting “The Hugh Jackman Show.” Hugh also brings Anderson some of his very own Laughing Man Coffee, and discusses how he came up with the inspiration to start a coffee line with all proceeds going to charity. Hugh tells Anderson what his children really think of his new Broadway show, and who the real disciplinarian is in the Jackman household.

joy-behar-290x140Plus, Anderson and Hugh play a rousing game of “Hugh Done It” with Anderson’s studio audience.

I have lots to say on this topic, but it's beyond frustrating that this show has no email published on their website to respond directly on how on sided they did this story on.

I worked in a school & made friends with one of the female teachers who told me she was adopted. We became very close friends so one time we were having a visit & I asked her if she ever wanted to find her real parents. She looked at me & said, Irene, I know who my real parents are. The end of me ever asking that question again. I did meet her parents & her brothers who were adopted also. What a wonderful family.
I only hope that these siblings find out the same thing as my friend Cathy. (DONOR SIBLING REGISTRY)

I feel those two (2) children are twins not just brother and sister because they are to much alike or they are so close it is incredable they were just implanted at different times but I do believe they are twins.

I think the only way to truely find out is through DNA to find out if they are twins I think that should be done.

I just need to say I hated the audience today because Hugh Jackman is a legend and their energy was so low. I would have been screaming just like those dumb justin bieber girls except I would be screaming to real talent. I should have been at the audience being asked a question by Hugh. I love him so much!

hello anderson
i have just this week started to watch your program (sorry ! REALLY sorry ! )
you are now on my dvr so that i NEVER miss your 'spot on' topics
how lucky are the sperm donor children ! they have a way to attempt to find siblings or fathers . . .
my bio father was a 'sperm donor' actually married to my mother who left with no follow~up info available to me
i'm not certain i care about meeting him ~ i would like to know the biological characteristics as i have some health issues that don't seem to be inherited from the maternal side of my fam
i do KNOW that there are @ least 4 siblings out there i know nothing about ~ i think maybe 'only children' like alana & i feel a little more strongly about finding siblings since we have never experienced that particular feeling
as i said, i don't know that i really care about him ~ after all, he left me for 58 years now & i am a pretty cool person and i am definitely his loss, but i would be interested in siblings
but, i don't know if they would be interested in me
i don't know if they have a clue i exist
do you have suggestions on how i may go about finding any information regarding the whereabouts of the 'other side' of my family ?
my 'now' father adopted me & the birth records show him as the father
'according' to my mother, she has NO idea where he lives or lived ~ i believe her due to the circumstances of her 'relationship' described to me( & @ this point, there is a good possibility he has passed ~ he would be @ least 78 )
but what about those 'sibs'?
i would not like to subject myself into their lives without a lot of investigation, but @ least i might find some 'comfort?' in knowing if they know of me, would like to meet me & don't know how to find me or ????????
thanx for listening
thanx for your caring, insightful program
ps harkless

I would definitely want to know if i was conceived by a donor. Although my situation isn't exactly the same, about 10 years ago i was told that i had an older sister that was put up for adoption when she was born. I found her through an adoption registry a few years ago and we talk sometimes, but we haven't met yet. 3 weeks ago i got a phone call from an adoption consultant nothings been confirmed yet because of confidentiality agreements, but it's sounding like i have another sibling. One that my father didn't even know about.

Regarding the sperm donor industry thinking siblings cannot meet and marry, perhaps they should consider this:

In the 1960...s, a family in our neighborhood adopted a little girl. The agency told the adoptive parents that the baby had, at that time, 14 siblings - all adopted, all living in the same city. The agency was disclosing the information to all adoptive parents because they wanted to do everything possible to prevent the siblings from marrying.

My sister has a different dad and grew up calling my dad "dad" and her biological dad wanted nothing to do with her. He knew where she was her whole life. He walked away from my mother when she told him she was pregnant. This man is essentially an anonymous sperm donor and still doesn't search out my 21 year old sister. These kids who were conceived using a sperm donor need to remember that biology isn't the only qualification to make a man a father. I understand you want to know, don't get your hopes up and if you have a man in your life that has treated you like your child don't be too quick to kick him out of your life just because your biology is different. A real dad is one who is there for all the little things; first words, lose teeth, girl scout meetings, karate tournaments, Christmas, birthday, teaching you how to ride a bike, watching you grow up and experience happiness and helping you through the sorrows in life.

What happens if you're a 'sperm donor' child and you meet and marry one of your 'siblings'? What would happen to the couple if they later found out they have the same dad?

My late father used to have an interesting response to my question when I would jokingly ask him, "Are you my father?" He had two replies: 1). Ask your mother and 2). What does it matter; who pays the bills?
I loved both answers and he was indeed, MY DAD!
