ironic this is part of today's show. i just started reading a book written by whoopi goldberg: "is it just me? or is it nuts out there?"
highly recommend this book, not a big reader, (b/c i'm a slow one), but this would make an excellent segment, especially if you can get whoopi as co-host!

Dear Mr. Anderson:
I saw your show on manners today. Your comments about bare feet in public hit a nerve. I work at a school. For the first time in my career I had a parent consistently coming into our center barefoot. She'd walk to the playground (dirt and grass) then come into the building, mainly cement floor. I was disgusted. The lack of cleanliness was a concern...but mainly I was concerned about the message this was sending the children.
A few co-workers agreed with me. At least one other did not agree with me, offering excuses for this behavior. This led me to believe I may have been over-reacting. Hearing yours and your guests' feedback helped me to see that my thoughts may, in fact, be valid.

Just wanted to share with you as a elementary teacher of 30 plus years that I have the pleasure of working with Grade One students who would be quick to tell anyone "Good Manners Are Always In Style". They can early in the school year give many examples of what good manners look like. I am so pleased with I hear from parents that our little classroom saying is carrying over into their home environment. I believe manners have to be modelled and taught to our young people.
Will be ringing in the new year with Anderson Live and later on with Anderson and Kathy. Is there anywhere else to be?
I am watching your show right now regarding bad manners and bare feet. I just want to let you know something regarding me. I am disabled with lymphodema/cellulitus. The fluid goes down my legs but not back up. My feet are constantly swollen to the point that it is very hard to find shoes for my feet that I can afford for limited income. It hurts to wear shoes, I have 1 pair that has enough Velcro across the top but the arch does not fit the bottom of my feet. Socks also do not fit my feet because they strangle my feet at the angle. I tried wrapping them and I was even in more pain. I have to wear these because it is not right to go into stores with no shoes or places to eat. I take my shoes off aka sandals because of the pain. If I could chop my legs off from the knees down I would so that it does not offend anyone. Not all of us have the option and joy of wearing socks and shoes and having 5 to 100 pairs. Please do not judge us all for not wearing shoes.
No, there are few manners left. People never say thank you or please, they put their arm and hand in front of your face and say nothing, they are not helpful to the elderly or infirm. People cough and sneeze without putting anything in front of their mouth. They wipe their hands on their clothes and it goes on and on. And the clothes people wear are abominable. You don't have to be rich to buy tasteful clothes that fit your body type. If you have a big stomach, please don't show it.
