How sick is this woman who wants to be paralyzed? Is she just scamming to get on the Anderson show or is she really sincere?
Dr Phil should get hold of her and ship her to one of his famous nut farms.

This is just outrageous! When you think of young persons who have been injured and are truly paralyzed they must be extremely angry to hear this foolish woman.

Am I the only one who thought Chloe was a man? The more I watched the more it seemed that wanting to be paralyzed wasn't the only problem at issue!

I was frustrated by the woman who wants to be paralyzed. I was born without any hip sockets and have a numerous surgeries. I took PE and did all that I was able to do and got really frustrated by the girls who tried to get oiut of PE when I would have loved to have their legs. About 4 years ago they gave out completely and I am in a chair.I miss so much because I can't drive or it is to hard to get me there. I think she should be glad to have what she has. I know that I am very thankful to have done all that I can do.

I think Chloe was disgusting. Perhaps she is just lazy or as stated above, looking for her 15 minutes of fame. You could tell by the smirk on her face that she wasn't sincere. Comparing herself to transgendered people was so disingenuous. Those people really suffer for a long time. Plus I'm sure there are no true paraplegics who wouldn't give their eye teeth to be able to get up out of their chairs. I am not a paraplegic, but had to quit work and go on Disability because of constant excruciating back pain for which pain medication barely appeases. I would give anything to be in good physical condition. Also, with her going on national TV an admitting that she is trying to injure herself deliberately, I doubt that any insurance will cover her. At least, I hope not. Really pitiful.

My heart broke as I watched today's episode of Anderson Cooper. I watched the episode, shocked at what I heard coming out of Chole's mouth. She claims her thoughts of wanting to a paraplegic is rational, because of her illness BIID. Anderson Cooper brought up the fact that her thoughts were not rational because she had a mental illness, therfore deeming those thoughts irrational. She continued to defend what she'd said, claiming they were rational because she has this illness and therefore her brain can't think any other way. I am not paraplegic, but I do suffer from a mental illness. I suffer from depression as well, I have a severe traumatic brain injury. Due to my depression, if it were to become manic, and I were to injure someone and/or myself because it seemed rational to me, would not make that action rational at all! For goodness sake, right from a young age we thought many things were rational that weren't at all, and needed our parents guidance because of this way of thinking. She claims this is only effecting herself. That is not true. The amount of paraplegic people that would be/are effected by this shows this does not only effect her. Her son may be "fine" with this, but who's to say her grandchildren won't suffer? They'll be sad that Grandma can't do and/or attend certain things because of her confinement to a wheelchair. By skiing in hopes of injuring herself, she's putting herself at the same level of risk to one who's suicidal; because of this action, I believe she must be hospitalized, being monitored and getting the care and help she needs. I find it rather sad that so many who are paralyzed would give anything to have the ability to walk again, or worse to move any part of their limbs and yet this woman who seeks attention and assumes for a moment that her life would be fuller doesn't need an accident for this to happen, she needs a doctor to reach the depths of where the real problem is and hopefully fix it. I cannot imagine how her family must feel, or friends, should she have any. They must all believe that this woman is mentally ill and I would have to agree.

My biggest question is what does she think will happen should she become paralyzed? Does she think once she has the sensation of no feeling she can simply say okay, I'm done and think for a moment she can call it off, get up and walk away or does she realize the burden she will be placing on her family who will be the ones looking out for her. Does she realize that should she be injured in a skiing accident and become paralyzed from the neck down she will need a breathing tube? She will have to be fed by others? Bathed and dressed by others-the simple act of combing her hair would be gone. She would need bags attached to her so that she can go to the bathroom since she will have no feeling and will be unable to tell when she has to go. She isn't looking at the reality, she is looking for her 15 minutes of fame which she is getting by appearing on news and talk shows. She should have to work in a hospital where there are people who have suffered the loss of their limbs and see what it is really like rather than this made up fantasy she apparently has in her head. She needs a doctor that is for sure, but not certain if her problem is fixable.

Chole tries to paralyze herself? Huh, I can't imagine why anyone would try to make themselves a paraplegic. Has she not thought about the medcal cost? Who is going to pay for this? If she becomes a paraplegic, and her self inflected accident damages more than just her legs? What if she can't think, talk anymore? How is her son going to feel then? She is pathetic and mental.

I cannot believe that she is doing this. Why would she want to pretend to be paralyzed. I am living with back problems, and i am only 20 years old. I have had 3 back surgeries. It's something that you don't want to live with. she makes me sick.

Dear Sir or Madam:

I was disappointed with today's show because I feel that it was unnecessarily slanted. People with conversion disorder are not "pretending" to suffer from paraplegia as you portrayed. Rather, conversion disorder is a genuine psychiatric condition. Your coverage showed your guest has having perhaps dubious motives for her condition. As someone with a mental illness myself, I do not think that the program helped reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, rather contributed to it negatively. I value your show and wish you success. I think Anderson Cooper does a good job. However, I was not happy by today's broadcast. Regards, Peter Besel

I find Anderson mocking people with mental illness. He is trying to tell us that Chloe is wrong and only trying to seek attention. I wonder if Anderson also thinks people with bipolar, schizophrenia, eating disorder, etc. are just seeking attention. Anderson definitely does not support people with mental illness, instead he is making matter worst.

I am horrified that this woman Chloe is even allowed air time. She is looking for a life time pity party. I have a darling little loved one who is two years old. He is perfectly normal right now, but due to spinal cord defect, that he was born with...that can all turn around at any time. He may have to go through several surgeries and still God forbid...have no chance at walking...not to mention, we may not have him anymore. Here we are praying for this darling little boy and would give anything for him to be as lucky as her. All we want for him is the opportunity to enjoy a REAL party. I'm sickened by this.

I do not think it is fair to compare Chloe to another woman who is actually paralyzed. Chloe struggles with an emotional disorder. The wheelchair provides her with a sense of security. She hurts no one, and is able to live a productive life. Having said this, I would never want her to have a spinal cord injury. I do see her as someone who feels better living her life this way. Chloe is an example of the wide variety of people who suffer with mental illness. This is still an area with many questions and no answers.

Hi
Re: "misfit" paraplegia. Your guest has my compassion. Although it would not be my choice nor is it my brain's need to be in her situation, I can understand that a person can suffer from these illnesses. Let's not be the ones to throw that first stone nor judge anyone without full knowledge.
There are two questions that I would have liked to have asked. The first is: if she is given a long life and is in her old age in need of care (physically and financially), has she considered and planned for this? The second question is: people with disabilities in general require more medical care. Is the cost of her care/insurance and government help higher and a bigger tax on the system than the psychiatric care?
I know that our system in Canada is very different. We, the tax payers would be having to incur her extra costs in medical, home, psychiatric, and elder care. However, there must be some societal cost if she is able to make her desires a reality.
Surely she wouldn't want to burden others with her spectrum of care.....
Just thoughts....
Thank you
Alexandra
