Very spirited discourse on the drug sniffing dog! The expert professional, clinical psychologist, was very focused on what he learned and the "statistics and studies". I liked the mom who was against the dog and said she raised great kids and now raising a grandchild the same way. I saw a tweet to Anderson too that said "I don't need a dog to tell me if me that my kid is using drugs." I've heard it all before. Actually, I've said it all before. That was until my son became a heroin addict and I missed it for too long!
As time passes when your child is an addict, you go from denial and excuses, to hoping they end up in jail because maybe then they will be alive.
I talk to families every day, none who expected their loved ones to be addicts, and they are desperate for help. The face of addiction has changed dramatically since the abuse and use of prescription drugs has become so prevalent. In fact, speaking of statistics, death from prescription drug overdose has become the number one cause of accidental death in the US, surpassing car accidents. There are, literally, millions of loved ones and family members who would do anything to keep their kids alive and drug sniffing dogs are certainly a possible part of the package. Maybe your "professional psychologist" would like to stand in a room with a couple hundred parents who have lost their children because of drugs and tell them that it is over agressive and an invasion of their privacy and rights!
Check out the archives on my radio show and you'll find shows about what parents really think. You will find recurring themes and lots of experience. Yes, there is lots of judgement from those not going through this drama, and a lot of self rightiousness in the comments. These days, this can happen to anyone. Good parents included!!!
