While I can appreciate the idea of saving money in all the ways that Lynett Khalfani-Cox outlined on the show I would like to point out one HUGE ISSUE. Generic drugs. She is accurate that the ACTIVE ingrediant have to be the same what she is failing to take into consideration is the INACTIVE ingrediants. These DO NOT and usually are not the same.
These ingrediants are the filler or binding agents and can vary widely-take it from someone with multiple food allergies and intolerances that the inactive ingrediants can cause problems that overshadow the helpfulness of the medicine you are taking. These don't even have to be listed on the bottle so it is up to me the consumer to find out the fillers and determine if the generic will work. I can tell you that it has almost never happened that a generic drug did not contain at least one or more of my intolerances or allergies. I have gone as far as calling my local teaching hosptal's pharmacy library and waiting for a call back to find out the answer.

Imagine if you needed an antibiotic today--could you wait and get even more ill while waiting for the answer from the pharmacy library or worse the manufacturer?

Yes Lynette, generic drugs do save money but for some of us and many more that are not even aware that their generic medication is the culprit in making them feel bad--that is not a savings that I am willing to trade for my health. I truely wish that more attention would be paid to this health matter in our country and these blanket statements were at least prefaced with the warning about INACTIVE ingrediants.
