A shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. on Friday morning killed 27 people, including 20 children, according to law enforcement officials.

The victims at the elementary school, which is about 60 miles northeast of New York City, included the suspected gunman, Adam Lanza. Authorities said Lanza killed himself.

Lanza's mother worked at the school, and he allegedly killed her before killing the others.

Anderson! We need you to be our voice! We, the people, HAVE to raise up our voices and let our representatives know that we will not tolerate this anymore. We need change! The rifle that was used in Ct., is not a weapon used for hunting. There is absolutely no reason for anyone other than law enforcement or the military to have access to a weapon like that. Noone is against 'the right to bear arms'-but when our forefathers wrote the constitution, you had to go out and shoot your dinner. You didn't live ten steps away from your neighbor. Recent history has shown the world that we have to make some changes. We must do this for our children. From Sandy Hook to a baby in a movie theatre, to a little girl in a grocery store parking lot, to students everywhere. If enough of us say something, they will have to listen. THEY WORK FOR US. Please help us to be heard. -Julie Argint-St. Louis, Mo.

Anderson, you were just talking about how people around the world are heartbroken over this. I want to tell you that I got an email from my penpal in Australia. She said it is major news over there and she knew I lived in Connecticut and sent her condolences.

I also want to tell you that I have family who lives in the middle of this part of Sandy Hook and my brother said they can't stop crying because when they look left, they see a state trooper's car in a driveway, and when they look right, they see the same. Three of their neighbors have suffered losses.

I must say to start -- I have not watched your program many times before. I will be watching more though especially due to the way you ran your show on the day of the horrific attack in CT. I believe you were the ONLY newsperson of any sort to refuse to say the weasels name as to not raise his status in anyone's mind. I think that was one of the most tactful & humane things that could have been done in the wake of such awful happenings. I believe you have the common sense and tact that others should be taking a note or two or twelve from you on how to act like a compassionate sensible human being. Well Done!

Hello Anderson,

I recently read that having guns keeps people honest. I totally disagree. I think having guns gives people an unspoken permission to kill when they feel like it. What happened to using reason, using our brains and using old fashioned fist to cuffs to work things out. If having guns keeps people honest then why do these shootings keep reoccurring. I think its because we ( politicians, parishoners, and government) are living a lie believing that guns are a cure for lack of self love and self understanding. Although, I by no means know all the details, and I hate to be crass, but as for the shooting in Connecticut, the mother of the shooter had it coming to her for having bought the guns in the first place. I beleive, as adults, we bring our problems upon ourselves, and we are our worst enemies, and until we stop pointing our fingers at everyone else and take responsibility for our feelings instead of acting out on them, then and only then can change happen in this world we live in. My deepest sympathies and compassion go to the dear little ones that gave up their sweet little lives so that those who are in power can go on living a lie.

As a teacher of small children in an even smaller town, my heart aches for these families, and their teachers. I am very disturbed by the reporters that are putting words and images in children's heads. One little boy said it sounded like someone hammering, the reporter added "it didn't sound like gunshots did it?" Please let these children go home. No more interviews with children!

I came late to the news this a.m. and my heart sank when I heard. It is always a tragedy when innocents are killed and I am angry also. I feel for the grieving families. Anti-gun advocates will use this as an opportunity to yell loudly again for the abolishment of guns, but as a pro-gun rights American citizen I can't help feeling we are taking steps backwards when it comes to our rights to self protection. I believe in the rights of the people to own and carry guns for our own protection. Most states have laws, rules, and registration requirements in place to keep those who are unfavorable from owning and acquiring guns. These are the laws I agree should be reviewed and revamped to adhere to stricter guidelines, but not to get rid of guns completely. I have a legal permit to carry in 30 states. I had to complete an application and questionaire, send proof of citizenship, fingerprint cards (for a criminal background check), photo ID, a recent photo and proof of firearms training before I was granted my permit to carry concealed. If more of the right law-abiding citizens were carrying, along with authorized personnel in schools, then it would be a major deterent to those who use our schools and our children as defenseless targets.

Today of all days to have images of Santa with an assault weapo was really in bad taste especially with a teacher co-host. Really inappropriate. Maybe I'm alone here but I'm not of Ted Nugent mentality and one war was quite enough for me.
I do not own a gun and when I feel I'll need one...I'll go after NRA Lobbyists and Pro-Gun Politicians.

Live by the sword and die by the sword.

Pray for those affected by this terrible, horrid act of violence.
