Dos and Don't for Dealing with Debt Collectors

Risk Management Expert and Consumer Advocate Alexis Moore joined Anderson's "Debt Collector Nightmare" show to help consumers understand their rights when a debt collector comes knocking at the door.
"No one has the right to harass you or to intimidate you or humiliate you… just to collect a debt," Alexis says. "It's not appropriate and it's also against the law." Below, Alexis offers tips for how to handle and react to debt collector practices. She outlines consumers' rights, and helps provide insight as to how you can ward off an unruly debt collector.

My sister is being harrassed on her job and at home by this company that states they are representing a payday loan company. He is telling her boss that she is a crimminal and a fraud. I googled his phone numbe, there was a lot of negative commets about this number. Would you please send me the link to the site of the young man you had on your show who is helping other consumers with harrasment from collectors. Thank you.

Im in the same boat as a lot of those that contacted you about debt collectors .i didn't have a chance to write down the gentlemans email address who had trouble with debt collectors. The gentleman sued the collectors. I need some advise for situation I'm in now and how I can help myself out of this situation

This is my second letter to you. I watch your show the day that the man was on there that was getting so many phone call about the credit he owe. I think that his name was Alan. He sue this credit company and receive all kind of money. He gave his e-mail where you can write to him and he might help you out some. Will you please send me this man e-mail. Thank you.

I Watched your program on Wed. June 20th. There was a gentleman on who had been harassed for $81.00 he had already paid. He is now showing people how to help themselves. At the end of your identity theft show, you had a gentleman on talking about how to consolidate and help pay off their debt. He suggested that most people can do the negotiating themselves. Can you tell me what his name was and if there is a website that he may have to help someone take the steps needed?

I am being sued by Wells Fargo for $93,000 a debt my ex-husband owed them after we were divorced. They call me periodically but have not actually taken me to court. WE had a company credit line before the divorce and he was supposed to take my name off of it which he did not. My ex husband filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and WElls Fargo wants me to pay the debt. It was $20,000 at the time of the divorce in 2001. My credit rating is low and I cant get any credit. I cant file bankruptcy because I own other property and do not want to lose it. Other than phone calls Wells Fargo has not actually filed a court charge. I would like to refinance my home but cant get credit with this charge on my credit rating. Is there anything I can do??? real victim's side,i don't get my money or my property back.

I have so much debt that my hubby died and left me I will be dead before I get it together. I must go back to work @ 68 yrs old raiseing my grands, what can I do?
