Michael O'Connell on Repercussions of Wife's Cancer Lie

Friday, August 17, 2012 5:00AM

Jessica Vega lied to her husband and an entire community about having six months left to live so she could have her dream wedding for free. Vega's husband Michael O'Connell recalls the moment he discovered her deceit.

"I called her on the phone, and she denied everything," Michael says. O'Connell explains he began to grow suspicious of his then-fiancée’s lie after he noticed she wasn't going to the doctor regularly or taking any medication. He also says she picked fights with him, and felt she should've had more of a "humble" attitude towards her loved ones.

After Jessica's arrest in April, Michael says he believes his wife wants to get better, saying, "She looked me in the face and said, 'I am never lying to anybody again. I am never hurting anybody again.'"

O'Connell adds that Jessica plans to pay back the $13,000 worth of wedding donations she received, and says Vega plans on making public and private apologies to every single person affected by the lie.

I remember meeting Jessica Vega about a year ago in Virginia Beach. I over heard her talking about their Aruba honeymoon. I made a mistake by joining in the conversation, and Micheal O'Connell jumped in my face and said "SHE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO LIVE IT DOWN!!!" One thing that is true about is that I actually seen my uncle died of cancer years ago. Hey Mike, that summons from last year still on record and affected my employment. I hope this true statement affects you.

Michael moved to VA Beach and told me at work one night that when he first met Jessica Vega, she was in a lesbian relationship. She doesn't need help. Yeah, Michael knows who this is.

I have seen this done. My friends girlfriend was saying she had leukemia and posting pictures of procedures she claimed were taken while she was having them done and saying the nurses took them. I had a feeling she was faking it all and did a little search and found all the pictures she posted and claimed were her own on other cancer victims blogs. it is sad that people would do such a think and take away from the real victims of cancer.

There are few things that make me mad, and this is most certainly one of them. When I was around 10 my mom had breast cancer. During that time I really did not have a clue what was going on, that this could kill her. I am so grateful that she is perfectly fine now and also sad for those who do not make it. Being 19 I have have been able to look back at everything, I don't know what I would have done if she did not make it. She has done so much for me and I love her so much. Looking at this, it is great to see how willing people can be to give. There are so many things I would like to say to her because this makes me so sick. Single mom sue I hope that everything goes will for you because it is people like you who truly deserve the help.

This makes me sick! I am a single mom with advanced stage Triple Negative Breast Cancer who has received absolutely no help, no compassion! I have a genetic test that needs to be done and could determine my outcome; the state medicaid denied me the test due to cost and a scientist in Canada told Moffitt Cancer Center he was to backed up to assist me with the test... a test that could save my life that my doctor says I really need! I have contacted multiple resources only to be denied but these people help a girl to get a wedding!!!! I can't get a dime donated for something that could give me a chance to live a longer life for my kids not a fairy tale wedding! So excuse me if this makes me sick and want to puke!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope she rots in jail!
