Watch: Anderson and Soledad O'Brien Discuss Interesting Outcome of Racial Study with Kids

Tuesday, April 17, 2012 6:30AM

NN anchor Soledad O'Brien teamed with Anderson for a special race experiment for CNN called "Kids on Race." Anderson, O'Brien and a team of researchers spent a year interviewing 145 kids, and as part of the study, young subjects were shown sets of pictures of people in certain situations -- for example, if one image depicted a white girl on the swing with an African American child behind her, the next photo would show the roles reversed.

O'Brien said she discovered that when African American kids get to the critical age of 13, "suddenly they're so much less optimistic about interracial friendships." Anderson noted, "It was interesting to see a child change their interpretation of what happened in the picture, solely when the only thing that was different was the race of the child."
