Erika Van Pelt's Experience on 'American Idol'

Wednesday, March 28, 2012 5:00AM

Erika Van Pelt is the most recent "American Idol" contestant to get voted off the show, and her fans are dying to know what it was like for the 26-year-old to stand center stage and sing her heart out for the world to hear.

But Anderson wonders if Erika perhaps lost some of those fans when she chose Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind" as the final song for the show, which eventually led to her being voted off. Erika is from Rhode Island, home to many Red Sox fans.

What does Erika think?

During her performance of "New York State of Mind," Erika received particular criticism from one of "Idol's" judges, Jennifer Lopez.

"I've had a few of press journalists sort of saying I was slamming her critique," Erika says. "I just disagreed."

Even though Erika did not make it to the end of the competition, she did make it into the final ten, which means she'll have to opportunity to tour with the "Idol" group this summer. She says she and the group have formed close friendships throughout the course of the show.

"I'm proud of what I did," Erika says of her time on "Idol," adding that she has no regrets.
