Marilyn's Tips for Saving Money at Restaurants
Marilyn says don’t be "chintzy" or a "cheapskate," but there are ways to save money when going out to eat. The 85-year-old recently became an internet sensation after writing a sincere and heartfelt review of the new Olive Garden in her neighborhood. Now, the Grand Forks Herald restaurant expert is sharing her favorite ways to save while enjoying your favorite neighborhood watering holes.
Number one, pay attention to the menu. If it's a restaurant with several courses, do you really need all the courses? Number two, drink water. Marilyn tells her grandkids to skip the soda -- that will save her four or five more dollars. Number three, skip dessert. "Dessert is something that is five or six dollars, usually. Do you really need it? Do you really want it?" advises the internet foodie star.
Take a look at Marilyn's complete advice for dining without denting your bank account...

I would love to know how Marilyn got to be a food critic, and how would someone go about getting started with doing that, Or being a restaurant critic; and getting paid for it. Please let me know.
Thank you
Dorothy
What a delightful lady that Marilyn is. I got such a kick out of watching Anderson interact with her. Also, a little sad for me because as an only child I lost my Mom a year Aug. 12/11 to Alzheimers. This lady made me think of her and all of the good times we used to have taking her out for dinner, oh how she loved getting out of the house. She was 88yrs old when she passed, God I hate that disease. Anyway, Anderson and staff, you and Marilyn gave me a reason to smile and remember. Bless you all and keep up the good work, luv the show!!!!

Last year I lived at a Commune for a $200.00 a month donation and two hours a day work which was washing, drying and putting away the dishes etc. I saved a load of money and loved it. As my money built up I left and continued on with my life. I suggest those out of work take a break with some loving, kind people that you may learn to emulate.
you can really save money and have better health if you cook at home ...
Love you comments and caring attitude toward each other and your audience. Love the show.
Common Sense is in short supply but this lady has it!
I really enjoyed watching Marilyn, she is so cute and she seems so down to earth. I love Olive Garden and I just actually ate there right before I saw Marilyn on the Anderson show and I too ordered the Chicken Alfredo and it was delicious!
This is the sweetest lady. And I'm so greatful that Anderson chose to profile her. After all...I Love The Anderson Cooper show. Thanks to all of you. Have a Great Day!
I think it's a good positive on your part to have the true and no fluff of some of our Seniors that still continue to be Vital to our lives whether it be a Restaurant Critic or a Three Generation Family of males getting into their boat for a simple Fishin' day. I Very Much enjoyed this part of your show. Thank You.
