Dr. Mike Dow's Brain-Booster Foods

Tuesday, June 26, 2012 8:56AM

Katrina joins Anderson to talk about her 20-year cornstarch addiction, which food addiction specialist Dr. Mike Dow says can occur because of cornstarch's ability to flood the brain with serotonin. Cornstarch, however, is not the only substance that can cause such a chemical reaction.

Dr. Dow recommends turning to healthy foods that produce serotonin to boost your brain function. Click through for a list of serotonin-producing, brain-boosting foods recommended by Dr. Dow.

I have an amazing salt substitute my family uses and loves. It is amazing on popcorn. It is all natural herbs and vegetables and nothing else. They have a whole line of cooking spices. Here is the link: http://www.bensonsgourmetseasonings.com/

Love it. Add bok choy and garlic too. We had green smoothies after Zumba last week made with filtered water, ice and some orange juice concentrate, plus veges of choice. They were delicious. I do a carrot and potato hashbrown, add chopped greens, season, top with cheese, simmer 5 minutes with a lid. Delicious.

Anderson...I posted on your fb page with a question I have. I do eat most of these items and I also take Zoloft...I took myself off of Tramadol after figuring out that I was 'over' doing the serotonin. The combo creates major Anxiety and serious sweating...and seemed to make 'panic attacks' occur on a regular basis. I had to look it up online to find out what was going on with me for years and I'm honest and open with my Dr. and they all have missed this condition...It's called Serotonin Syndrome.
