Before & After: 'Toddlers & Tiaras' Moms Makeover Experiment
On Friday's episode, Anderson turns the tables on the moms from TLC’s hit reality show "Toddlers and Tiaras" -- by giving each a makeover in a replica of their daughters' own dresses, makeup and hair.
They learn first-hand what it feels like to be decked out in the ultimate pageant gear... everything from eyelashes to Mary Janes.
On the show, Anderson is joined by veteran pageant girls, as well as the show's newest addition, viral sensation Alana "Honey Boo Boo Child" and their mothers. They discuss the latest controversies from the current season, including hyper-caffeinated drinks and one mother's decision to have her 8-year-old daughter count calories.
Take a look at the before and after photos...

Are you not living your dreams through your kids? Are you not pushing your kids to accomplish something you couldn't or didn't? No offence to any of you, but none of you are pageant material yourselves, not that I am either (I certainly recognize that fact).
As an example years ago I went to school with a very good hockey player who would probably make the NHL. Unfortunately as he got older this dream slipped farther and farther away. He got married had a son who was also a very good hockey player and unfortunately his father pushed him so hard that the son lost all interest and now is quite mixed up.
Oh my. Here are some adjectives for the Moms to describe what I witnessed with these very overweight obese women (and their daughters): wrong, unconscious, sad, shallow, stupid, despicable, unbelievable, unfathomable, half-witted, dim-witted, idiotic, puerile, brainless and moronic. Shame on those women who call themselves "mothers".
Toddlers and Tiaras
Despicable, obscene, disturbing. Where did childhood go to? America stop glorifying and allowing these shows on television. Get the programs off the air. When is enough enough! Put their moms in jail and throw away the key! Shame on them.
And yes, I also watched the little biker girl flipping off the other girls. Hmmmmmmm??
The claim that biker chicks are 2 steps away from prostitutes is offensive, uninformed and an insult to millions of women. As a biker chick & mother of 6 with 7 grandchildren, I feel Anderson should spend a little time in the real world. Maybe even meet and get to know one of us!!!!
the mother's look as rediculous as their daughters@ & trying to live their dreams thru their innocent daughters Stupid is as stupid does!
That pageant Mom who is obese and strutting her overweight child is disgusting, The $15,00 she spends on GoGo juice and fluffy outfits should be spent on a gym and Dietician for her and her daughter! That child does not have a healthy attitude and will end up just like her ignorant mother. WAKE UP LADY!!!
I can't belive she dressed her 3 year old as a prostitute it doesn't matter if it was for fun her daughter was dressed up as a prostitue!!!!
PS, to the other viewers of this show: do you really see anderson as showing all of this in a negative light? I love Anderson, I think he is so intelligent, but I completely see this as a positive projection of the child pagentry and He sat on the fence and if he leaned, he only leaned onto the side of making it seem a good thing. I feel like i've been tapped with a rubber mallet, I just never saw Anderson as this type... I am stunned. Ladies, what did he say that makes you feel that he was against it? I would love to know, perhaps I missed something that I wish I hadn't. It is also good to see that there are women out there who feel that this is exploiting our innocent little girls. The one parent wanted to say that they bump and grind and wear makeup because of what they see in stores and on t.v., well my little girl wouldn't be watching shows like that and seeing *toys* such as those. BTW I didn't see the little girl give the middle finger, shocking! I wish fathers had been on the show. It would be interesting to see how they feel about it, since i'm sure they are not living through their little girls. Bravo to those of you who really care.
My comment is not positive by any means as far as supporting the idea of pageantry. Anderson, In my opinion, I think that you are one of the most intelligent men that i have ever listened to. I cannot believe how your show was conducted with these little kids. First of all, only girls with lower than usual flamboyant (for lack of using a word i really want to use) were on the show. Have you watched many docs on this subject? And that one mother, I feel that she is a little touched in the head, her behaviour was so defensive and just wrong. It is all wrong. What on earth is one right thing about putting cone bras on tiny girls?? Where was your usual Anderson Cooper personality? I saw you cover your mouth and feel discomfort at the beginning. Also they say that they are not pedo-bait. True, all kids are at risk, but these little girls are at less risk?? I am so upset that i am angry. I can usually see two sides to every opinion. For years i have not been able to sway my repulsion at these mothers, coaches, and others used to put on these disgusting side shows. Obviously these women live vicariously through these little girls. Why weren't any of the docs out there shown in part where the little girls get so little sleep, and how bad their behavior is at home? Of course these kids will say they love it. Look at the mothers* on your show, can you imagine what they are like when there isn't a camera around? I could go on for hours, but the sad truth is that what i have to say is not going to ever make a difference. Bottom line: the girls are sexualized, period. Girls not in pageants are playing games, dolls, and other things that kids do, a lot of television won't even show a bare bottom of a baby because of how it is now days. I feel for the former pageant girl. She obviously still carries hurt and I'm sure feels the distance from her momma knowing darn well that there is sexualization in every single pageant. I just really wish that you would have said something, anything, instead of riding the fence and seeming like you actually enjoy this *activity*. I can't say why, but you just don't seem like the same person now. That woman far right stage just said kids don't realize what they are doing when they are shaking their bottoms, etc. "They don't realize." Isn't that a confession right there?? It is. I haven't yet seen what your mother is going to say, but i sure can guess after seeing what this show has just done for pageantry. I feel ill. Have a good evening.
This is borderline child abuse and sets the women movement back about 50 years. It should be band. Thank you for bringing this to our attention Anderson.
After viewing your program I am wondering if your staff of writers at a meeting asked the question: How can we make these mothers look as demeaning as possible on our show? And the answer to that question seems to be - make the mothers appear in costumes similar to their daughters. Do your writers believe these women love their daughters? What motives do these mothers have? When they were interviewed, all of them appeared to want to have this experience with their daughters, and would stop when their daughters wanted to end this pageant experience. Are there any long-term harm-filled effects from children participating in these pageants?
It would have been interesting to me if you would have had two or three medical professions to discuss this question. Where is your professional journalism being used where there should be both sides of the issues being examined? Then, the viewers can make their own decisions. It would appear from the day's script that you would show only one viewpoint -your opinion of how terrible it is for mothers to have their daughters perform for these pageants.
I am a retired public school teacher who along with my husband nurtured two daughters. I wanted to teach my daughters that it is better to serve others than to be served, so I had them, and myself, involved in the Girl Scouts of America and Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs. Those decisions my husband and I made together. However, I think each family must make their own decisions as to how to direct their children's lives. By the way, have you shown the positive values of the Girl and Boy Scout programs on your show? If you present a problem, should you not give other possible alternates for parents to do with their children? There are many positive community activities for families to become engaged with, but perhaps they are not given the media exposure they need to bring families into their active programs. Anderson Cooper, you can do that on your show. Why not?
Have not seen the actual show, only the guest mothers and daughters and show clips, so only have that for reference. The most sensible thing I have seen pertaining to this show so far has been the mother who had her daughter counting calories. With eating disorders seeming to be an issue for many teenage and younger girls (either too much food, or too little, or the wrong kind), this mother is demonstrating WHAT to eat and HOW to eat in a responsible way, rather than just sending the message "don't get fat" and letting the daughter figure that out on her own, or sending negative food messages ("DON'T eat this, DON'T eat that"). A positive message that includes "DO eat this, DO eat that" seems like a good long term life-skill for anyone to implement, and that mother did seem to be speaking from experience.
Interesting concept, having the mothers go through the motions of becoming pageant contestants - the outcome was very entertaining. I have a black leather hat similar to the one on the show, but not the ensemble. Now I'm inspired to add a silver chain.
Ok, first of all, Anderson doesn't have tattoos-if you'd notice he had on something like a stocking.....but more appalling-yes, jus*****ched it and "Paisley"-the Julia Roberts girl WAS definitely giving the other girls the finger. And while I am in my early 50's and overweight-I think June needs a wake up call-her daughter is just annoying and being set up to be taunted as she gets older-why is squeezing your belly fat cute? Healthy acceptance of your body is one thing-squeezing your fat together to make your belly button talk is just sick. And for the pageant judge or whoever said how "tiring" it is for these girls and she understands them needing a jolt? Stop the planet-I want to get off!
Wow.....These kids are doing it for the money? They have to be taught that. $ and power .....this is where we're at...please do a show on THAT.
