Inside the Home of a Hoarder

Monday, February 06, 2012 5:00AM

On Anderson's "My Mom is a Hoarder" show, Maria admits that a previous "Anderson" show inspired her to write in about her own hoarding tendencies… but just how bad is Maria's hoarding problem?

Maria's collection includes clothes from her daughters' childhood and her own stack of tags-still-on outfits. The "Anderson" team goes with Maria to Albuquerque to see her cluttered home firsthand.

"There are several items that I really cherish and want to save," Maria says. "I have a hard time separating the things that I need and the things that I want."

Take a peek inside Maria's home…

this story is sooo familiar to me. my mom has ALOT of stuff just lying around her house and its about to consume her!!!! she had custody of my nephew and he recently was placed in states custody and one of the reasons for keeping him from coming home is the way she keeps the house!!! she has soo much stuff that can be tossed out, but she continues to hang on to it all!! how can i get her to see that she would be so much better off without all these things? my opinion is that if you are not using these things, or dont plan to use them in the near future, then you dont need it!!! is there help????

I'm a hoarder. A few years ago I started taking a medicine for fibromyalgia. And a nice surprising effect was that I started cleaning my house. It's taken years and I still have more to do, but I now have a more 'normal' household :) So I was wondering why this isn't mentioned in the shows I've seen on hoarding ?
