A Sperm Donor's Future?
Trent, an "Anderson" guest who donates sperm to help couples build families, may have good intentions, but Art Caplan, a medical bioethicist, says that his altruistic ideals could backfire in the future.
"I think Trent is doing something that partly is a nice thing, helping couples, but partly has trouble…" Art says. "If something happens to mom or dad or the couple, or the child has no one to raise it, a court is going to look at the piece of paper for about, hmm, 2 seconds and say, 'Trent, you are responsible.'"
Art says that the anonymity associated with most sperm banks typically makes this problem irrelevant, but in Trent's case, each family knows details about Trent's life, including where he lives.
Trent says he knew from the beginning what he was getting into, and that it doesn't worry him.

most ANYONE can make a child with someone they don't know....someone who's long gone by the time anyone realizes a pregnancy... no screening, no test for ANYTHING... no way to track down the other party, no way of knowing, some don't want to find nor be found.... but you get a sperm donor in front of a TV camera and there's shock-n-awe.
When you regulate and control the MAKING of an unwanted child, then you have my attention - until then, mind your own business.
