Creator of 'BLEEP White Girls Say... To Black Girls' Speaks Out
Why did you make this video? Anderson asks Franchesca, the young woman who created and is featured in the video.
“There is ‘Stuff Girls Say’ and then there’s the most popular parody of that one, ‘Stuff Black Girls Say,’” comments the 28-year-old graphic designer. “I watched them, I thought they were funny, but I really couldn’t relate to either one of them.”
While made partly to be funny, the video has sparked quite a conversation, with some of the comments online calling her video racist.
“My intention was not to label anyone as a racist,” says Franchesca. “In all honestly, none of those comments are racist. They are a little ignorant and maybe not as culturally sensitive as one might like to portray themselves."
Franchesca says she has been pleased with the response to her video, including many people emailing her to say they now realize they need to think more before they speak.
Anderson’s full interview and discussion of this video airs on Thursday, January 12.
'Slut Shaming': What Do You Think of This Viral Video?

One of the audience members stated that it's not ok to make fun of where a poor person lives. ("Oh that's so ghetto.") I completely agree. I just wish that people would realize that applies to not only calling something "ghetto" but also poor white people ("redneck," "hillbilly," "cracker," etc.). I don't even know what the word is for poor Latinos.... and I'm glad that I don't. Regardless, I wouldn't use it.
Racism is found everywhere, and is not confined to putting down African-Americans or Latinos. Poor white people are made fun of and put down, too. As are people with disabilities. Unfortunately, these types of racism are still completely acceptable.
Here's a novel thought: Let's stop making fun of everyone. Let's not use derogatory words or phrases, including the R word (retarded). Real change in race relations won't happen until there are no more groups that are acceptable to make fun of or to put down.
I bet every word in this video actually came from the mouths of women she's encountered over the years. How does that make HER the racist?
It's NOT racism when THEY do it. LOL
Anderson can you just stick to news. I mean really you are all that important that you needed a talk show. Dayum, black men can't be found on tv but white folk have 2 and 3 shows. Is that racist...what about Joe Madison who rocks or Ed Gordon..sorry, he smokes many of your cohorts...and Michael Eric Dyson..why are they not hosting a show? Really Anderson..know when enough is enough.
I cannot believe that the discussion that this video SHOULD be provoking has devolved into whether it is racist against white people (it's not - educate yourself about what racism actually is)... Yet again, the idiot segment of the white population make everything all about them and their sensitive little feelings.
Whether or not some idiot with a YouTube account completely misses the point and has completely failed to absorb any basic and blindingly obvious information about his or her own society should really not be the issue here. The fact that someone who has a computer and access to the internet but can't accept that sometimes they do things wrong and need to think a little is not something people should be pandering to.
I really hope there is more to the show (I don't have access to it) than these clips imply, because it really looks like she is on the show mostly to explain why she had the temerity to criticize white people.
I found the video to be hilarious. I can really relate to many of the comments Francesc made as a "white" woman. Growing up I had so many kids at school touching my skin and my hair. In Canada people have a veneer of politeness but they still have the same basic ignorance or assumptions. I have always tried to be patient and use opportunities of rudeness or ignorance to educate people. They basically become conversation starters. I am gratified that when I express interest about others they are pleased and will explain things about their culture.
People do say these types of things often. Surprisingly, it's not just white people who make silly comments, many races have varying degrees of misinformation about one another. It is up to each of us to dispel these myths and speak openly and honestly with each other so we can learn more.
I have read many ppl. say if a white person had said this ppl. would b yelling racist, and that is very true the ppl would b yelling racist, but because a black person has said it its been taken out of context. Im tired of this double standards bs. I see so much of it it makes me sick. You wonder y there is racism. The sad truth is if u r white u cant say anything, but if u r not white and say something racist u were taken out of context. Please. You ppl. make me sick. From a proud White American.
I thought it was funny because I've lived it. She isn't degrading the white women who say these things, she's making fun of the comments. The white women who DO say these things (usually) meaning to be offensive or racist. They just don't know. This is based on real life ignorance Franchesca has experienced, and the appearance and mannerisms on her best friend of 15 years. People are freaking out about this and I guess I get it, but in my eyes, this is just a video about ignorance. I didn't get mad at the sh*t blacks girls say video, because I didn't fit the mold at all. I don't get mad at white comedians stereotyping black women "ghetto and loud, broke, etc" and those stereotypes are offensive and in my case untrue. She isn't saying "white girls are racist, white girls are dumb"
Side note-I think there are PLENTY of stereotypical youtube videos about black women. I don't flip when some guy mimics the stereotypical "angry black woman" or when we are portrayed as emasculating, stupid, lazy and obnoxious and I think those are WAY more offensive than a video pointing out your OWN ignorance...
As a white girl, I was not offended by this parody,,, if we can't poke fun at one another we will end up going to war over our differences.
I don't usually watch youtube videos for their "entertainment" value, but I could relate to this one. I'm an African American male who was raised in the 60's and '70's, and I could write a book on the "Stuff White Guys say to Black Guys." Because I have an open friendship tent when it comes to the people that I let in, some Whites have felt comfortable saying very ignorant statements about Blacks. As with Black men, Black women have had sexual stereotypes imposed upon them. Some Whites have told me, a Black man, that they would only "date" Black women because they believe that they were "loose and/or freaky" in bed. My female cousin, a nurse, once told me that a White male intern asked her to have a "discrete" relationship. He said that she couldn't tell anyone about it. LOL She didn't even entertain it for a second.
There is a frustration among black people. we are frustrated that we have been in America ever since the europeans stole this country from the natives, we were enslaved for well over 400 years by white Americans, we built the cities and railroads for this country and we have lived, worked, prayed, protested, and died, along side white Americans and THEY STILL DON'T KNOW A THING ABOUT US !! In the year 2012 we think these questions should no longer be questions. We are frustrated because you choose not to see us as humans and not to know us as people after all this time. Thats why I can't help but be disguted when a tanned white woman compares her arm to mine and gleefully says "I'm almost YOUR color !!! Isn't that fantastic ?!!" (fantastic for who ?) ignorant.........loved this video, needed it.
As a white women i can can relate to this video. I hate it when black girls ask to touch my hair and make fun of how thin i am. Now the questions make me laugh because i'm older and realize some people are just that way. I think this video is so funny! Keep up the good work.
This video was so funny because it's so true! White girls do and say that type of stuff all the time. As an African American who grew up in predominately white areas in various places across the U.S. this was my experience. The dumb questions, rude assumptions, touching! All true. I used to think what is wrong with those people. Now the questions make me laugh because at 33 years old I realize some people are just clueless. The touching, I still can't stand. I'm not your friggin pet! I wear my hair natural (translation curly/ fro)and white girls always say "your hair is so cool. You can do so much with it. Can I touch it?" Um....NO!! I'm not your friggin pet! Plus I don't know where your hands have been. Ick. Get informed.
I think the videos are hilarious! As a black woman I have experienced that type of stuff from white girls my whole life! I think that's what makes this video so funny, because it's simply so relatable. As a young black girl who attended primarily white schools I was usually the only black person the white kids ever came in contact with, so they tried to use me as the representative for the black race. They would touch my hair. Ask the dumbest questions about blacks, and make the rudest assumptions. I'd love to say this was only a couple of whites in certain place, but it's not. I lived all over the place and the reaction is the same. There seems to be a lack of awareness that whites have. They feel entitled to touch black women and are down right SHOCKED when black women get offended. We are NOT your pets! It's not something "we" should get over, but it something others should be aware of. Bottomline if you've thought these things, said these things or have done these things you need to wake up!!!
the white people commenting that are either 1. saying disgusting things 2. never saw the video and 3. saying this would be racist if a white person did it are all obviously old and stuck in there ways. this girl is on youtube and for someone that has seen both videos, i know this was all in fun. i've personally heard statements from her videos directed towards me, so how is she racist? it means someone has actually said these things to us, so if it's racist, then address that to your kin. secondly, it wouldn't be racist if a white person did it, bc guess what? this is youtube we're talking about. there's a guy on there named shane dawson that does shanaynay and it's fkn hilarious and no one calls him racist. when people know you are joking and it comes from a good place, it's not offensive. if you are being an @ss and being mean, then i will get defensive. plus she based the videos on a white girlfriend of hers that she's known for 15 years. the girl even knows about the videos and has said she said those things before but never thought about how they would make chesca feel. so instead of saying black people pull the race card all the time, how about you stop pulling the "black" card and do your fkn research. at least if you're gonna be mad, have your facts straight. ya'll are acting like a bunch of ********
