Would you clone your pet?

On Monday's show, Anderson meets Danielle from the TLC special, "I Cloned My Pet," who paid $50,000 to clone her beloved dog, Trouble -- so she could have "Double Trouble."

"It is not for everyone," says Danielle about her extreme measures to recreate her pet. "It was something that I wanted to do so it worked for me."

A "Trouble" wall mural? A "Trouble" bedspread? Check out this preview to see images from inside Danielle’s home -- a practical shrine, showing off her love of "Trouble." Also, learn where Danielle went to create "Double Trouble"...

She had the money to do this, it was HER money, and she CAN do what she wants with it as long as she is not breaking the law. If she wants to burn it, fine. If she wants a pet with the same DNA, then so be it. Her Money = HER Choice. Yes,I hear you... "there are other pets available and animal shelters needing financial help", but she is doing something that Heals Her Heart, granted, it may not be your personal choice but last time I checked, this was a world full of choices. And frankly, you are right, it is not the exact SAME dog, but it is as close as one can get. It makes her life better, it makes her happy. What makes you happy? Would others object to that? My only concern is for the surrogate dogs used in the Project and I hope they are well cared for before, during, and long after. My personal belief is yes because they want the healthiest puppies possible. The long term care and continued life of the surrogate is the only thing I would want to follow up and check out further along with the cost of the procedure. I have seen this offered from $50K to $100K and up. I understand there are expenses involved but that seems quite an excessive amount of money, making an unreachable goal for the majority of society anyway.

Six - eight million companion animals are killed at shelters each year....more than that are killed under the radar. They are killed with lethal injection, gassed, heart sticks, shot, and in some rural areas even buried alive.Pets are abandoned, and overpopulation issues are not addressed because of greed...profit rules over compassion. For a nation of supposed 'animal lovers' I believe that the mass, systematic killing of our beloved companion animals is abhorrent, immoral and unacceptable. To honor her beloved pet, rather than creating a clone perhaps her money would be better spent rescueing animals from a kill room or lobbying for shelter reform and humane laws that would end the genocide of our pets.

How can anyone justify this?? As long as you have the money you can do anything you want, whatever the cost to other lives? Why do you think they have to go to Korea? This is a genetic lab, in a country where they eat dogs. What do you think conditions are like for these miserable host dogs being used like lab rats? There are so many dogs waiting for the loving home you will be able to provide. If you really want to honor your beloved deceased pet, use your money to save lives instead of supporting cruelty.

Look...IT'S HER MONEY-PLAIN & SIMPLE. I know there are TONS of dogs in Shelters. I do foster & rescue. If she donated the money to a Shelter, another Shelter would complain that they DID NOT get the money. If you adopt a dog from a Shelter, someone would say..."WHY did you go to that Shelter. YOU should have gone to XYZ Shelter" to get your dog". No one will ever STOP Puppy Mills. People will continue to buy from pet stores. So, what is the result. This woman has the means to do what she wants. People wrote...kids are starving. Is it this woman's fault? NO. It's the parents. As I said, some people wouldn't be HAPPY even with a free lunch. They would COMPLAIN about something on the menu. It's her choice. And her money...

In all honesty it is her money. Yes we the common people or I should say broke people see this as insane. I think that 50k could be spent in better ways but what if she loves this dog like it was her mother, brother or just a loved family member. If she can spend 50k and can honestly say 5 years down the road she is happy more power to her. She might not be a dog lover or a pet lover she might just love her dog. Sometimes looking at the clone might just give her the happiness she needs to continue on living. Money is not everything.

Seriously, I'm not concerned with the way people choose to spend their money. The bigger issue is the cruelty brought on unwillingly to the surrogates and just the simple fact that this goes against nature. It serves no purpose at all. It's a clone. It's not the original and therefore can't completely fill the whole in anyone's heart to bring back a cherished pet. Move on people. There are millions of animals out there that are in dire need of a person to rescue, love and care for them.

This turns my stomach. I definitely understand the love of a beloved pet, but this goes against nature and ethics. There are so many dogs in shelters that have suffered and are suffering because of the mentality of stupid people like this woman and everyone out there that spends tens of thousands of dollars to clone their dog. These people are just feeding into the problem of all of the homeless animals out there that are in need o*****ood life and home.

What about the quality of life of the surrogates that are being experimented on to house the life that's being manufactured through cloning? This is sick!

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Mahatma Gandhi

Hold on! This money was hers, representing her labor, and she has a right to do anything with it that she wants. She can burn it in the fireplace and none of you guys have any claim on it. I am sick and tired of losers thinking they have a claim on anybody else's labor. I would have chosen different things for it but that is my choice. That's why we have menus in restaurants.
