What Are You Reading These Days? (Ask Anderson)
A book about zombies? Find out what Anderson has been reading lately...
Yahoo Shine community member Robin asks Anderson, "With all that you do in your professional life, when do you find time for yourself? What are you reading these days?
As a fan of AMC's "The Walking Dead," Anderson recently finished reading "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War" by Max Brooks. He also enjoyed "Unbroken," a World War II survival story by Laura Hillenbrand, who also wrote "Seabiscuit."

I think Anderson would like the book "Skinny White Woman" written by a talented new author by the name of Stasia Minkowsky. This book is a nonfiction autobiography about her amazing journey and experiences living with the Native American Indians and their ceremonies. She tells about the trials, tribulations and joys of being part of the Sacred Sundance Ceremony. Its an amazing book by a gifted author about a human journey and an unbreakable spirit. I couldn't put the book down. We can all identify with this journey be it,physical, emotional or spiritual. The honesty that Stasia writes with, allows you to travel along her journey and feel like you are sharing her experience. I absolutely enjoyed every minute of the book and hope everyone has a chance to read it!
So if Anderson is a Walking Dead fan, he would love "the passage" by James Cronin. It's about a military experiment gone wrong that releases a virus that turns people into something like vampires (not nice ones like the Twilight vampires)... It is the first in a trilogy and a movie will be made about it.
Other good reads: The Art of Racing in the Rain (if you've ever loved a dog, it's a great book!
Also anything by John Hart! (The Iron House; King of Lies; the Last Child)
I would like to recommend Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden, a fabulous book about native Indian snipers set in WWI, riveting story telling as well as Small Island by Andrea Levy.
Both books are favourites of mine.
A must read for everyone is FEARLESS by Eric Blehm. It is the story of Adam Brown, an Arkansas Navy Seal killed in Afghanistan. It is not a story of the Seals but more a story of what Adam overcame to become one and stay one. It describes all his demons, obstacles and triumphs. A true life changer! Facebook page is R.I.P. Adam Brown (U.S. Navy Seal)
You will not be sorry for reading this. You need this story!!
Good to hear Anderson is a zombie fan! Any chance of getting some folks from The Walking Dead, comic creator, etc., on the show?
I love to read. Currently, I am reading The Nine by Jeffrey Toobin; A Singular Woman by Janny Scott (a book about President Obama's mom); and Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee by Charles Shields. My favorite books are The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom; The Ice Master: The Doomed 1913 Voyage of the Karluk by Jennifer Niven (great read); The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout and Andersonville by Robert Vaughan.
If you appreciate a good laugh, check out 23 African Short Stories by Carol Kairo.
Any book by Francine Rivers would be my first choice. Love her. I just read the book "Help" and thought the movie was just as good as the book, which is not usually the case for me.
Yesterday with Amanda Hocking you mentioned a book you were currently reading and loved; I didn't write it down but wondered what the title is.
Thanks
a fan
mmmmmm reading about zombies eh? That is interesting.......
Heh Anderson, if you havent read the ROAD by McArthy try it, it is not a huge book, you could find the time, and its hard to put down!
Anderson..I read Unbroken also...I could hardly stand to read parts of it, but was fascinated by this person's will to survive and apalled at the horrors of being a prisoner of war, and what war turns people into.
Hi, Anderson:
My favorite books are mostly classics, "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Wuthering Heights", "The Diary of Anne Frank", "Gone With the Wind", as well as "Rachel The Rabbi's Wife" (I love this book and read it over and over); "Diary of a Mad Housewife" - same thing - just love it! Captain's and the Kings by Taylor Caldwell - this one because she was a terrific (and prolific writer), but mostly for the foreward to this book; but one of my all-time favorites which I have read at least fifty times is "Grandmother and the Priests" also by Taylor Caldwell. There are so many books which I love and have read and re-read, but they are too numerous to put here.
Thank you, Anderson, for letting us in on your favorite reads.
One of my favorites in the Paranormal Romance genre is "Lifelines" by Victoria Anne Wofford; this is really a murder, mystery, paranormal romance all rolled together with main character of a smart beautiful New York City Lawyer entwined in a friend's murder and romance with NY City cop, while being plagued with dreams of a past life romance in the Civil War with a man who is just like the NY City cop. website: www.victoriaannewofford.com
Anderson,
I love all your shows but my favorite shows have been the one with Angelina Jolie who i am a big fan of because i see a loving caring person and not one of those big stars who care only if they look perfect. The show with your Mom was very touching and i was moved to tears. I too have lost family members starting with two brothers when i was 11 then again when i was 15 then a sister by the time i was 28 yrs old. I understand the pain both you and your Mom feel at the loss of your brother . I found your compassion and love to your Mom a blessing.
I jsus wanted to share this with you.Continue to be who you are and be there for your Mom. We only have our Moms for a short time. Both my parents are gone.
I will continue to watch your two shows.
How do you make the switch from newscaster to talk show host so easily? I would imagine that with some of your topics on your talk show that the newscaster in you would come out and you would start treating the interview like a news investigation. I find your ability fascinating as well as you. I have no issue with your wardrobe on your talk show. In fact, you look very good especially in sweaters and turtlenecks.
