Baby Naming Trend: The Anderson Cooper Effect?
Anderson likes to joke that his full name, Anderson Hays Cooper, sounds like a law firm in the 1800s. Despite his self-deprecation, it looks like there’s an Anderson Cooper baby-naming effect happening...
Linda J. Murray, Editor-in-Chief of BabyCenter.com, tells Anderson that BabyCenter.com has named "Anderson" the Baby Name Man of the Year.
His name didn’t make their list of 100 Most Popular Baby Names of 2011. It didn’t even make it in the Top 500 Most Popular Paper Names of 2011. Where did Anderson rank? It turns out his name is listed at #673.
"That's terrible!" says, Anderson. "Really?"
Linda says that despite his ranking, his name has actually risen 101 spots in one year.A rapid rise? Anderson is hopeful that in 40 or 50 years he will break the top 50.

I named my DS Anderson in 2009. The name came from his Faternal Grandfather. I was going to make it the middle name, but it was sounded like royality so I kept it as his first name.
Anderson, my name is Keri-Michelle Melissa Walden weird name huh well I am named after one of my dads friends in high school and Michelle was my aunts middle name and my mom put that on there Melissa is my moms name she wanted me to have something of her when she sent me to my dad because she was 14 when i was born and mu dad was 16 so i lived with him till now and now i live with both my parents. Anderson, my name is Ren and I have never met another Ren. Ever! At least you have met other Andersons and Coopers! When I asked my parents about my name, where it came from, they said, "We picked it out of a Welsh name book." I love my parents, but I thought, great, good job with the originality there parents!
I have an Anderson, also! Even better, his name is Anderson Cooper:-)
My husband's middle name is Andrew, and Anderson means "son of Andrew". We liked Cooper, actually as a first name, but of all of our kids (we have 7) none of them have the same initial, and we already have a 'C' name, so we used Cooper as a middle name.
I was surprised at the number of people that related him to THE Anderson Cooper! A lot of people call him, not Anderson, not Cooper, but "Anderson Cooper".
Love it.
Dear Anderson,
My maiden name is Anderson. When I was pregnant with my first child, I wanted to name him Anderson. That was 31 years ago. Had never heard of Anderson Cooper at that time. Needless to say, my husband wanted his son named after him so his name is Michael Anderson Chancey. I first began watching you on CNN because of your name. Thought you were great and now follow you on your daytime show. Tape it everyday and watch it at night. Thanks for a great show.

Our firstborn son (10 weeks old) is an Anderson!
We named our son, Anderson, almost 9 years ago. We named him after a last name of a Dr. who was very helpful in us becoming parents. People comment all the time how it sounds like the name of a future President. Now he does get "Oh like Anderson Cooper" a lot, but we don't mind! I like that he has a unique name ... sorry, Anderson, but I'm hoping the trend of naming babies "Anderson" doesn't take off to quickly. I was wondering, though - why did your parents name you Anderson? Was it a family name?
I was watching the show when you commented on baby names, and not having heard the name Anderson on anyone else. My friend has a 12 year old daughter named Anderson. It was a family last name that they gave to their daughter in honour o*****randparent. Their 9 year old daughter's name is Sutherland, also in honour of a family name.
I thought it was hilarious when Anderson was talking about his name sounding like a law firm. We named our 8 week old son Miller Price T_____ and my parents totally made fun of us saying it sounded like a law firm.
I have been thinking about the Asian man who was on your show a few weeks ago. He had lost several family members in the past few years and was on your show sharing about how lonely he was. Has there been any follow up on him? I was especially thinking of him during this holiday season. Have you gotten back in touch with him?
Just to let you know Anderson that I take names of children to visit Santa and yesterday I had 3 cooper s and one Anderson. So it is becoming more popular.
