J.R. Martinez Believed He Could Win 'DWTS': 'I'm Latin!'
Despite being the least well-known of the "Dancing with the Stars" cast at the start of the season, J.R. Martinez says he knew he could win because "I had my Latin roots and I was hoping that would help me through."
The Iraq war veteran, motivational speaker and actor on ABC's "All My Children" says that he has always loved to dance and always thought he had rhythm.
"Being the least known," says Martinez, "I felt I needed to make that much more of an impact."

Hi, I hope this gets to JR Martinez...Thank you. I have fallen in love with you. No, not romantically (I think your girlfriend is gorgeous)emotionally. I am a military mom. From the first moment I heard your story and saw you on AMC. I knew you were going to be wonderful in anything that you do. I admire your courage, humor and loyalty to this country. When you spoke on Anderson about your scars being your uniform I was overwhlemed. I don't know if you realize how profound that was.Thank you for reminding everyone that some scars are not visible. My son has PTSD, it is painful to watch. I cannot even imagine the hell you and my son went through in Iraq. I see you and I cry because all I pray is that my son get better and enjoy life. A Bronze Star of Valor is not just an award, you "pay" one way or another. God Bless you JR, you deserve every happiness that you desire. Merry Christmas.
