Last Time Wendy Was On the Show: How Much Does This Mom Spend on Pageants?
We all see the makeup, the hair, the clothes -- and even the pageant routines, but do we really know how much money goes into the preparation?
Anderson asks Wendy Dickey, a pageant mom, how much she has spent on her 3-year-old daughter Paisley's 3-year pageant career.
You might be surprised at the total…

I am a grandmother of a 6 year old little girl and I would be very sad if this happened to her. Where are the fathers? How do they feel having their child made into a sex symbol.
Wouldn't it be better to spend your money on your kid's college fund? Makes more sense, doesn't it? These kids can't do this forever, can they? They'll have of these trophies and nothing else to show for it.
After watching your show, I decided to watch toddlers and tiaras to decide for myself how I felt about it. The costumes didn't bother me that much because within the context of the pagaent other children are dressing the same way and within context the costumes are not that bad. My daughter danced for 10 years and some of her costumes would have been considered risque out of context but within the dance world they were on the conservative side.
However, when I watched the show I was shocked and horrified at one mother's attitude which I found borderline abusive. Her daughter wanted to be a gymnast but her mother made her compete in pagaents. She even pulled her out of gymnastics because she was becoming too muscular and didn't fit her expensive pagaent dress. She said after pulling her out her body went "back to normal". I was horrified.
Anderson, I would love if next time you deal with the dance moms or the pagaent moms if you would deal with the subject of adolescents and weight. Many girls put on weight as they go through puberty. What lengths will these teachers and parents do to keep their children thin. As I mentioned earlier, my daughter danced for 10 years. When she started gaining weight as a teen one teacher suggested that she start smoking to not eat as much and the dance director told her to start purging and told her how. I never knew this. My daughter has been bulemic for 6 years. It has affected her health to the point that she had to drop dance because she was getting sick all the time. She is now 19 and has been out of dance for 4 years but when other difficulties arose she would go back to binging and purging and this all started from dance. I wonder how these intense parents handle the issue of weight.

There is a specific point that I feel is continually missed whenever this subject is discussed. I see mothers defend their actions by stating that they keep their children safe, they don't let them out of their sight, that they don't feel they're putting their children in harms way because it's just 'humor' inside the small confines of the child-pageant industry.
What they miss, and what others have "almost" gotten to but I have yet to hear, is this: The pedophiles in our society talk themselves in to believing that children are simply "little adults", they talk themselves in to believing they (the child) truly must want what they are intending to do, or have done, to a particular child. By sexualizing their children, by making their little girls seem like adults by dressing them sexually, is inevitably going to CAUSE a pedophile to go out and victimize another child. These parents who state their children are well cared for, watched closely 24/7, and state that it's just all in good fun and that no harm is done, need to step back and realize that no matter how closely they watch their own children, by sexually presenting a 4 year old for anyone in the public to see, it will inevitably cause some pedophile to give another child adult qualities in their mind, and eventually assault them. We need to show children for what they are... CHILDREN, not miniature adults!!
One audience member on the show touched on it slightly when she asked, "Don't you worry about who is looking at the photos, or what they might DO when looking at the photos?" Don't these parents care that they are part of the problem? Don''t they worry that presenting their 4 yr old as a prostitute will directly cause the sexual molestation of another little girl?
No matter how safe these pageant parents say they keep their children, they are part of what causes the rest of the world's children to become victimized. They perpetuate the problem and they just don't seem to get it. Their only concern is that they keep their own child safe and to hell with the rest of them?
There are a lot of little Freddy Krugers, Jasons, Clowns, Pirates.... do those Mothers get ridiculed???????
People need to lighten up ...... at least Mom is in her daughters' life!
That mother who dressed her daughter up as a prostitute and sees it only as a costume needs to see a shrink! It was neither cute nor funny, it was disgusting and so is she!
Yes, Texas is considered the South, but you obviously do not live in the South. If you did, you would know that Texans sound different than people from Tennessee, who sound different than people from South Carolina. And keep on hating the South. That will ensure people like you won't move here and stink up the place.
They all have Southern accents because Northern girls are too ugly to be in pageants.
The outfits (Julia Roberts) that paisley wore, were simply COSTUMES. The mom ment no harm or offence to anyone. As acting judge toward them, Are you any more involved daily with your children than Mrs. ****ey is with her children ? Forgive, Forget, On with the show.
I truly believe that the world has gone crazy. Mother's dressing their daughters to look like young adults is terrible. When those children grow up will they think that their Mother's used them? Who are they without sexy costumes, makeup and hair teased and sprayed, singing songs that that have so many meanings? I tell you I believe that it is a form of child abuse.
Uhhhhh and Texas isn't Southern??? Uhhh Texas fought on which side? I believe......... They wore grey.. I believe they fought for the right to Own People as property.. I believe they ( Every person wearing the grey) should have been tried for Treason.. and Hung until dead.. For Crimes against humanity and against our Great Country..
Back to the Loser Moms living vicariously through there daughters.. Happens in every state but as always with the least concern for Moral Values among Southern States..
Will any of us forget the 20 year old Miss America ( church goer.. NOT a Christian btw just a poser!!!) who at 19 had breast enhancement to win a beauty pageant? Humm Christians know what GOD said about displaying such vanity..
That was not a southern accent,, it was a Texas accent... I know the difference.
I could not help but to notice all the pagent moms had a southern accent. Is this thing of displaying tiny girls all dressed up as adults & acting like adults particular to the southern part of the USA? Note: I am crazy about the Anderson Cooper show.
