Nine-Year-Old Elizabeth Talks About Being Called the 'M Word'
The Johnstons, a married couple of achondroplasia dwarfs, have two biological and three adopted dwarf children. They call themselves the real-life seven dwarfs.
In this clip from the show, 9-year-old Elizabeth talks about what it feels like when people call her the offensive 'M' word, "midget." Take a look at this inspirational young girl...

I do not have achondroplasia, but I have been called a "midget" before by people because I'm shorter than the average person (I'm only 5 ft tall, and the average height is around 5'5"). I can't imagine how much more it would affect someone with achondroplasia. :C

I am a 6 foot 2 female. My son is just a shadow under 7 feet. It isn't always easy to be different but having the right attitude about it goes a long way. Great family!
What a wonderful Family, they are all God's special Angels.
Unique, and very lucky to have each other. "God Bless All"
Hi, My cousin is a dwarf and you know what ... the best thing is that we have never let her feel that she is different, She is just unique in her own way as your sweet family
God Bless
D Johnstons, what a great family! you are blessed with d right attitude to life.Keep it up! Thanks for sharing ur lives.
I was so happy to finally see a program that addresses "little people". My mother was 4'7" and I am 4'8". Although we are "tall" for "little people", we have always had some of the same issues. Instead of Achondroplasia, our family had VDRR (Vitamin D Resistant Ricketts), which is another rare genetic disease.
Thank you again....
Poor Elizabeth. No child should have to be objected to being called such a mean word. She seems like a sweet kid and she is so brave.
dear johnson family
no matter what size you are your kids are the perfect size and if people do not understand your kids and make fun of them they need to see how people are different from other people you are such a loving family

A charming family. It helps everyone to be aware of the everyday life of a short statured family. Lots of times people would like to ask questions about how they manage everyday life, but are embarresed to ask. Having interviews and pictures like this is educational for everyone.
This is a beautiful family - not because of their size or looks (although they are all good looking individuals)but because of their attitude and outlook - and acknowledging that God has His hands on them and their lives. They are beautiful because they are reaching out to others to educate us, not to receive anything in return. We are the ignorant ones! May God continued to bless this family and strengthen them in a world that is so judgmental. It would be an honor to know this family.
Wow, this family is GREAT. And the little 9 year old girl, sounded more mature than half the teens you'll talk to today.
That's GREAT. These people are really what a family is all about. Helping one another.
I wish to hear more of GREAT stories like this, of happy families.
Thank you Johnston family for sharing. You are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, lovingly created in His image.
Your sister in Him,
Melissa
Congratulations Johnston family, you are doing a great job with your children, and you have the right attitude on life. You have a wonderful family. To bad a lot of us don't have your attitude, if we did it would be a better world to live in. I have had many friends of different color, size, religion, disibilities and I love them all, we are all the same. God made us all brothers and sister I am proud you are my family.
God Bless you and yours.

We all need to learn to enjoy what was given to us, rather than blaming others or ruining one's life by complaining. The Johnston family is teaching their children to take charge and to be independent and are taking the time to try to right a wrong in our society. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all families did that for their children rather than casting blame and/or depending on handouts. We are totally what we make of ourselves and those children will be successful, happy and contributing members of our world. Congratulations and thank you.
