Anderson's Favorite Foods

Tuesday, September 27, 2011 4:52AM

We've heard plenty about what Anderson won't eat (couscous, spinach and waffles, to name a few), but now Anderson shares some of the foods he eats on a daily basis.

Anderson admittedly eats the same things day after day, which made it easy for him to share with us what his daily food consumption looks like.

Watch below to see some of Anderson's culinary staples…

I grew up HATING spinach and any other 'greens'. My father made my older brother and I sit at the table until we would at least try a bite. We were there for 2 hours after dinner. He finally got tired of sitting there with us and threw up his hands in frustration.

I really like spinach now and it's b/c I eat it raw in a salad, on a sandwich, and we put it and/or kale in our fruit smoothie every morning, and take it from a 'greens' hater, you cannot taste the green stuff in your smoothie. I give you my word as a picky eater.

I have 2 children, one of each and when they were growing up we had family dinners each and every night, whether at home, or out at a restaurant. Yes, we took them to the smallest and also the best restaurants and never a mishap. If your child is accustomed to this from a young age there will be no problems later as to how to behave and what utensils to use.
Family meals at home always consisted of a meat, a starch and 2 vegetables (green and red/orange) salad and desert. Living overseas during some of their younger years they also ate frog legs and snails and other weird things.
Now our daughter has two children and I am afraid to say their meals are mostly on the run and my grandchildren have a hard time eating anything but chicken tenders, rice and pasta with cheese. Stuck in a groove, much like you Anderson.
I use to say something but now I just ignore it...they will eat when they are hungry.

Anderson,
I love your new show! I've followed your career since your CNN show was in the 7:00 p.m. time slot. Larry King was a must see for me and I began to watch the shows around his, and came to admire your humanitarian insticts, journalistic style, and appealing personality.
Since I have been single my entire life and will turn 60 in July, I am interested in occasionally seeing you help, interview, or pay tribute to someone who is single. There are so many stories in the media that feature families or couples.
Thank you for all the good you do. "CNN Heroes" always is the kind of program that inspires, teaches, and really helps people.
Continued success with all your endeavors. If you should have Johnathan Edwards on again, please ask him if he's ever communicated with Jesus or God the Father. Sheila Chatterton

For pity's sake, Anderson, doesn't your partner cook ? My son's partner is very fortunate because Joe is an excellent cook. To exist on frozen dinners and hot dogs is pathetic when you live in NY and there are great restaurants around very corner. Remember what Auntie Mame said...

On the show about eating habits. Anderson said: the t.v. audience could get Boston Market certificates like that were given to the audience, by going to andersoncooper.com
Don't see anything about how to get them?

Saw the show today, and I too go through stretches of eating the same thing day after day. One year, I ate beans and rice every day for lunch, another year it was grilled cheese and tomato soup every night for dinner. However, I have been actively working to break this habit over the past 10 years. I'm proud to say that my diet is pretty diverse now---but, I still have to make myself change it up and try different things. I had to try things over and over and over again before I started working them into my diet. I like simple too---so I go to the fruit market and try what's in season. I do it to be healthy.

What a surprise! You would think that a person like Anderson who travels the world, would be used to all types of foods by now at his age! Variety is the spice of life!
Perhaps this is why is so often pale looking.

One should never be afraid of tying new foods of all sorts except snakes, worms and bugs which is of course my pickyness!

Anderson,

I am with you with the eating thing. The simpler the better. Meat, potatos, corn. Life is good.

I like your show so much that no matter where or what I am doing, I have to stop and get home to watch you.
I'm with you on the eating bit, I have my favorite things and I don't really care to try new things.I think it has something to do with my upbringing. It was just plain good food, no gourmet stuff. I like to look at my plate and know what every thing on it is.I try to eat a balanced diet but its kind of hard when you live alone, and shopping for one is something else.I am 80 years old and I am in pretty good shape all things considered and I am still going strong.

I absolutely love the show. To me it is a modern day version of the Phil Donohue show. More than anything, I like it because it is REAL. Keep up the good work and best of luck!

How does Anderson meet his eating needs when he is reporting from a war zone or other remote area? Surely the don't have Boston Market there?

I have the pleasure of my Mother visiting with me for a few weeks..."There is nothing like a Mother's LOVE". She and I watched your 1st episode together and laughed. Love SJP! Although we miss OPRAH, your show is one that we make sure not to miss! Keep up the great work, Anderson, we enjoy you!! Thanks, Robin and her Mom
