Anderson Eats Spinach for the First Time

Friday, December 30, 2011 7:14AM
In this moment from today's show, Anderson, who has a "strange relationship with food," tries coffee, Brussels sprouts and spinach for the first time. And yes, our prop team provided him with a wastebasket just in case he felt sick.

Is there a mainstream food you refuse to try?

I was a picky eater when I was a kid but I just realized when I was in high school that it's a lot more exciting not to be a picky eater. Anderson is such a darling! Nice show Anderson, I find your featured topics very interesting. You might wanna visit us here in the Philippines and try our BALUT (if you haven't tried it) to add on to your food adventure. Thanks! :)

I loved today's show Anderson you are such a charming personality. I thought it was hilarious when you had the reaction to eating spinach. If you ever get the chance watch the tv commercial for Meijer grocery when the little girl is comparing name brand spinach to Meijer spinach, your reactions are the same! I give your credit for trying something that you really don't like. I love watching your show and find you so easy to like, you seem so down to earth for having such a famous family history. I try and eat foods for nutritional value and give myself one cheat day a week to have anything I want. It has workded for the past year and I feel pretty good. I really hope you choose to start eating more healthy because I would like you to be around for a long time! Take Care.

Thank you for th show "What Type of Eater Are You?" My son, who will soon be 20 years old has always had a fear of food. I knew as an infant that he had an issue with it. We have taken him to many specialist who all said that it was in his head and that he would grow out of it. I always blamed myself as a mother. What did I do wrong? Could I have contributed to it. I now understand that it was a drastic change in his life as an infant and I no longer worry about it. He is a very healthy young man and is now in his second year of college and is doing acceptionally well. I am very proud of him and I thank you for opening my eyes.

Dear Anderson,
THANK YOU!!! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO SAID "I WISH WE DIDN'T HAVE TO EAT". No One ever understands when I say that. I always say also, that when we get together with others, WHY DO WE HAVE TO EAT, TO GET TOGETHER??? Of course, no one understands this either. Thank You for letting me know I'm not ALONE!! I'm 45 and have been a picky eater all my life. I guess I now am a "disorder eater", but as a teenager I had a eating disorder. I was Anorexic and Bulimic for 6 long years. It began when I was 14. I wasn't bulimi*****il I was "ACCUSED" of being bulimic. The psychiatrist gave me the idea, I didn't know what it was. This was when Anorexic was just being recognized. I got down to 85 pounds, had to be tube fed and went through therapy. Being BULIMIC was so hard. It was so hard to stop. I wouldn't wi***** upon my worse enemy. By God's Grace and Mercy, I was able to stop when I was 21. It took years to eat a piece of cake, any sweets. I knew every calorie going in my body for years. I'm divorced, but while married I went through "THE FAMILY DINNERS", I cooked and enjoyed eating food. I overcame my "fear" of food. Now I am alone. I live with my dog, Bella. She will eat nearly ANYTHING!(smile) At 45 and single, I EAT ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE TOO.
It has nothing to do with Anorexia. I have no idea of the calories I eat. While I was married I said "why does everything have to involve food"!?!? Then I'm accused of "having anorexia, again". This happens CONSTANTLY!! I was able to prove that I wasn't Anorexic through blood work. Thank God for technology! If the blood work had not been good, I would be hospitalized. I was losing weight, even though eating. It turned out to be a thyroid problem. I was delighted to prove I'm Not Anorexic!! I'm a small woman, 5'4" 115 pounds. I have enough wrong with me, I don't need to add to it. I'm completely disabled due to a work injury and failed back fusions. (Another Story--Nightmare!!)
Now, I mainly snack throughout the afternoon/evening.I like to drink Ensure instead of eating. But rarely can afford it. I too do not like COFFEE either!! Being 45 I have not tried many foods and will not. I would rather starve then to eat any type of PORK AND BEANS. SO YOU, ANDERSON, ARE NOT ALONE, EITHER.
I THINK YOU ARE GREAT!! MAY YOU HAVE CONTINUED SUCCESS!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Sincerely,
Missy Baker

Anderson, I watched as you tried the spinach, coffee and Brussel sprouts! I gagged with you.. the only way I eat spinach is with a salad and cold... Never hot! This way, I do not feel as if I am really eating it and still getting my veggies...OK, so you don't like coffee .. So what.. I happen to live in Coffee USA.. Seattle WA.. So most of us here Love Coffee.... Brussell sprouts.. No worries.. But,I have to admit some of the ideas above sound OK! Love the show so far.. Except the sister Wives.. Not my thing.. Only show I have missed...

LOVE your show - something different and interesting every day. The eating show was great - reminded me of my kids. What do you think about tacos or burritos - they are my favorite. What about fried chicken? Keep up the good work.

I truly believe that many foods are disliked because of the way they have been prepared!!! The brussel sprout you ate today looked like it was plain, no seasoning and probably boiled! I love brussel sprouts and the one you ate even LOOKED nasty! I disliked brussel sprouts so much when I was a kid that I remember sitting at the dinner table alone, after everybody else had finished their dinner, and throwing the brussel sprouts at a certain persons head. This person said I could not leave the table until I ate them. It was not my mother and not my father but a person of authority for sure. Her brussel sprouts looked much like the one you ate today! Now brussel sprouts are one of my favorite winter vegetables. I roast them, tossed in olive oil, salt and pepper, and they are wonderful. Please come to our house for a "family dinner" and I think you will enjoy the food as well as the experience. Thank you for your show.

I never like Brussel Sprouts until several years ago when I had them sauteed in butter and garlic. Now I can't get enough of them!

Anderson if you cook spinach or any other vegetables the way we Italian americans cook it you will love it!
Cook your spinach just a few minutes, spinach only takes a short while, drain water then add olive oil and 2 cloves of garlic..simmer 2 minutes and done//Try it you will love it.
