'Your Child Is Not Supposed to Die Before You'
Our audience for the premiere show included many Amy Winehouse fans who felt personally connected to her struggles with addiction.
Maria is one of those fans. She has struggled with drugs and was sober for 13 months before relapsing. This August, she got clean again. Amy’s death was a wake-up call.
In this clip, Maria's mother, Frankie, talks about what it’s like to see your child struggle with addiction, and what it feels like as a mother doing everything she can to keep her child safe. Frankie’s message to moms in a similar struggle: “Keep fighting. Your child is not supposed to die before you.”
Please share your words of encouragement for Maria in the comments below.

Maria, you are a worthy and valuable woman. Minute by minute remember that drugs and alcohol will make you give up all that is good in life. Be good to you and stay clean for YOU and your loving family. I am a mother who really knows what losing a daughter feels like I lost my 33yr. daughter 6months ago. BE STRONG!!!!
Hi Maria! I would like to congratulate you on your continued sobriety. I want to commend you for your efforts, the strength it takes on a minute by minute basis at times. I have a niece who has been on drugs since she was about 14 or 15, she's 31 now and has had 6 children from 5 different guys. All of whom have been taken away by child services because the last one was born having withdrawls from her drug use during her pregnancy. None of us knew she was using during pregnancy. Instead of getting cleaned up, she wasted no time getting back on the streets to do her drugs with nothing holding her back. She doesn't even want to get clean and has seen the baby once. There is so much I could go on to say about the troubles her other children are living with, but I won't, it will take a book, I hope this message will encourage you to continue staying clean and sober for the sake of your own life and health, but also for the loving family you have that bears your burdens when you are using. God be with you always and keep saying the Serenity Prayer, it works.
Hi Maria. My name is Bats and I'm an alcoholic and addict. I am so proud of you for any and everyday that sobriety is in your life or thoughts. I started getting sober 10 years ago. I currently have over 2 years of sobriety and in the past 10 years have obtained over 7 years of sobriety. Each and everyday can be a challenge with me, alcoholism is sometimes so ingrained in our spirits but trust me when I say that our spirits can soar to highs that addiction could never think to take us. Again I am so proud of you.
In Sober Moments With You,
Countess Bats
